Headshots are a powerful way to market yourself and your company. However, there is a big difference between a good professional headshot and a bad one.
Here are some tips to ensure you get the best headshot:
-
Think Classic
Wear something that you know you will look back on and be happy you wore. This is not the time to experiment in your wardrobe. If you don’t like it now, you won’t like it later on!
Men: Pick your favorite suit or button down that fits you well.
Preferably a solid, dark color that doesn’t bunch up when sitting down.
Women: Choose a professional outfit that you are comfortable with. Stray away from patterns,
unless you plan on layering a blazer or sweater in order to cover most of the pattern from showing.
-
Bye, Bye Wrinkles
It is very important that if anything in your wardrobe needs to be ironed or taken to the dry cleaners, that it is done prior to the shoot. Wrinkles can be very distracting to a photographer and expensive to retouch. Clothing stands to a person’s detail and taste; don’t mess up!
-
Trust Your Photographer
Most people do not enjoy having their picture taken. However, trust that your photographer knows what they are capturing. We shoot a lot of frames during a session, so do not focus on the one you may not like! You will be pleasantly surprised in the end result if you just allow the process to take over!
Throughout the shoot, you will hear the words “tilt, rotate, lean” a lot! Your photographer wants to find your best angle just as much as you do! Trust him or her even if the process may seem tedious. The slightest shift in head position or hand placement can have a huge impact in your headshot!
