Three Ways We Optimize Our Photography Using Different Lighting and Backdrops

Lighting is vital for photography - it was actually the Greeks that came up with the word photography which means “drawing from light.” Photography with lights doesn't have to be as complicated as it might sound. Through mastering these three tips, we take our photography above and beyond the traditional methods.

The Importance of Position

Position of lighting is detrimental to how the composition of the portrait comes out. This can be the directional facing of the sun, artificial lighting in a studio, or flash photography. We adjust the positioning of the lighting to the side to create texture in the photo, while front facing lighting contributes to a flat image.

Color Temperature

The white balance on a camera determines how it captures the temperature of the light source. This can be important when deciding on a cast for the image - whether it be warm, cold, or somewhere in between. Using Photoshop capabilities can also help in changing the hue of an image by changing the color cast.

Shoot in Natural Lighting

The benefits of New York summer weather is the affordability of shooting outside when necessary, but as fall comes upon us, we are even more determined to get that perfect shot using resources at our disposal - mainly the sun. Shooting outside - on a rooftop, in a field, or on the street - can elevate your images through natural lighting, disposable backdrops, and easy access.

Jeffrey Rosenberg photography knows the importance of lighting, and has been a trusted source of photos for 15 years and counting. We can get the perfect shot for any headshot, food photography, or product photography needs. Contact us here for more information.
